Equipment Specifications

The newly redesigned Instruction Support Lab is equipped with 11 work areas that are set up as versatile modular pods. We have 6 Dell PC stations and 7 Apple stations, each consisting of special hardware and software ranging from video editing to word processing

Dell PC Stations

Our Dell PC systems are Pentium 600mhz machines, each with a CD Burner, 512MB Memory, 40 GB hard drive and dual 17" flat panel displays.

Transparency Scanner Station

Attached to one of the Dell systems is a HP 7450C Transparency Scanner for scanning film or transparencies.

Apple Stations

Media 100 Station

Our most popular station is the Media 100, where you can create digital media using your VHS tapes or mini DV tapes. Once your material is digitized you can edit the video and audio and add titles, text and special effects. For distribution, you then have the ability to burn your media to a CD, DVD or back out to a VHS tape. Depending on your file size, the lab staff can assist you in producing professional quality movies in a matter of hours

FinalCut Pro 3 Station

Another video editing system is our Final Cut Pro 3 station. Final Cut Pro 3 is a Mac application that enables you to work in a range of editing formats from DV to SD and HD. This station is set up on an Apple G4 800MHz dual processor with 2x60GB drives, 512MB of memory, combined with FCP 3, which allows you to render and preview transitions and effects in real time. A Matrox card has been installed for professional editing, as well as a Shuttle Pro, an Apple 22" Cinema Display and a 17" Flat Panel Display. Also available is a SanCube 250GB External drive, used for large video file storage.

Slide Scanner Station

One of the Lab's most popular scanning solutions is the Nikon SuperCool Scan 4000ED Slide Scanner, which scans negatives and slides and creates digital files. The optional Slide Feeder allows batch scanning of up to 50 slides per hour. This scanner is attached to an Apple G4 800MHz dual processor with 512MB of memory, 2x60GB drives, CD and DVD Burner, airport and SCSI cards, and an Apple 22" Cinema Display.

Scanner Station

The Epson 636XL Scanner with SilverFast software provides high resolution imaging and fits up to 11 X 17 size pictures. This station consists of an Apple G4 800MHz dual processor with 512MB memory, 2x60GB drives, CD and DVD burner, airport and SCSI card, with an Apple 22" Cinema Display.

Additional Stations

The remaining stations are equipped with the latest software and are used by our graphic artists and clients as production machines for Webpage creation, graphic design, online instruction, programming, database management, and other applications.

Mobile Labs

The Lab has 2 sets of mobile wireless computers that are used for workshops and instruction both on campus and on trips around the state. One mobile lab is equipped with 18 Dell 233MHz laptops; the other mobile lab has 22 Apple iBooks ranging from 233 to 400MHz.

Additionally, there are 8 Apple iMacs with wireless cards that are used as presentation machines at conferences and workshops, as well as digital hubs for easy connection to cameras, projectors and Lego Robotics when working with junior high and high school students.

Large Format Printing

The HP 5000 PS 42" Large Format Printer uses UV inks to guard against fading in the sunlight or other light sources. Features 256MB memory, 20 GB Hard disk, RIP Technology, prints up to 42" wide by 15' long posters and banners using all types of media from papers to canvas.
