Open Source Projects
There are various open source projects that have created free software for streaming media across the internet:
Icecast
Icecast was created in January of 1999 by Jack Moffitt and Barath Raghavan to provide an open source audio streaming server that anyone could modify, use, and tinker with. It is developed under the GNU General Public License by many people scattered around the globe.
Xiphophorus
The Xiphophorus company is a distributed group of Free and Open Source programmers. Our purpose is to support free, open protocols and software that ultimately serve the larger public and development communities.
Free-Expression
Free-expression.org's goals are to provide a full battery of streaming media tools, including the server, the client and codecs, which are used to encode, decode, compress and decompress data.
